How OSRS Combat Calc Works

To use OSRS Combat Calc, enter your 7 permanent combat skill levels and read your combat level instantly. The 7 skills are Attack, Strength, Defence, Hitpoints, Ranged, Magic and Prayer.

  1. Enter unboosted levels from 1 to 99, with Hitpoints from 10 to 99.
  2. Read your combat level, the exact decimal value and the levels left to the next combat level.
  3. Check the Next combat level panel for the fewest levels in 1 skill that reach the next combat level.
  4. Plan a target combat level or a combat-free skill limit in the build planner.
  5. Save up to 12 builds, copy a share link or export a backup file.

OSRS Combat Calc runs in your browser. It needs no login, password or hiscores lookup, and potion or prayer boosts do not count toward combat level.

OSRS Combat Level Formula

The OSRS combat level formula is Combat level = ⌊Base + max(Melee, Ranged, Magic)⌋, built from 7 skills and 2 multipliers: 0.25 and 0.325.

Combat level formula

Combat level = ⌊Base + max(Melee, Ranged, Magic)⌋

Base = 0.25 × (Defence + Hitpoints + ⌊Prayer ÷ 2⌋)
Melee = 0.325 × (Attack + Strength)
Ranged = 0.325 × ⌊1.5 × Ranged⌋
Magic = 0.325 × ⌊1.5 × Magic⌋

⌊ ⌋ means round down.

The formula has 4 parts:

  • Base adds Defence, Hitpoints and half of Prayer (rounded down), then multiplies the total by 0.25.
  • Melee adds Attack and Strength, then multiplies the total by 0.325.
  • Ranged multiplies the Ranged level by 1.5, rounds down, then multiplies by 0.325.
  • Magic multiplies the Magic level by 1.5, rounds down, then multiplies by 0.325.

The multipliers set each level’s value: 1 Attack or Strength level adds 0.325 combat levels, 1 Defence or Hitpoints level adds 0.25, and 2 Prayer levels add 0.25.

How Is Combat Level Calculated in OSRS?

Combat level in OSRS is calculated as Base + the highest of Melee, Ranged and Magic, rounded down. To calculate combat level by hand, follow 5 steps. The example uses level 70 in all 7 combat skills.

  1. Calculate Base: 0.25 × (70 Defence + 70 Hitpoints + 35 from Prayer) = 43.75.
  2. Calculate Melee: 0.325 × (70 Attack + 70 Strength) = 45.5.
  3. Calculate Ranged: 0.325 × ⌊1.5 × 70⌋ = 0.325 × 105 = 34.125.
  4. Calculate Magic: 0.325 × ⌊1.5 × 70⌋ = 0.325 × 105 = 34.125.
  5. Add Base to the highest style and round down: 43.75 + 45.5 = 89.25, so the combat level is 89.

There are 3 rules that change the final number:

  • Prayer adds to Base only on even levels, so Prayer 43 gives the same combat level as Prayer 42.
  • Only the strongest offensive style counts; training a weaker style leaves combat level unchanged.
  • Combat level ranges from 3 for a new account to 126 for a maxed account (Base 61.75 + Melee 64.35 = 126.1).

FAQ

How does combat level work in OSRS?

Combat level in Old School RuneScape (OSRS) is a number from 3 to 126 that rates an account’s fighting strength from 7 combat skills. The defensive skills (Defence, Hitpoints and Prayer) form the base, and only the strongest offensive style (Melee, Ranged or Magic) is added on top. Combat level sets the Wilderness attack range and shows next to your name for other players.

How do you check your combat level in OSRS?

To check your combat level in OSRS, open the Combat Options tab (the crossed-swords icon); the level shows under your weapon name. Other players see the same number next to your name when they hover over or right-click your character.

What is the max combat level in OSRS and RS3?

The max combat level is 126 in Old School RuneScape (OSRS) and 152 in RuneScape 3 (RS3). An OSRS account reaches 126 with 99 Attack, 99 Strength, 99 Defence, 99 Hitpoints and 98 or 99 Prayer. New OSRS accounts start at combat level 3.

How much HP XP per hit do you get in OSRS?

You get 1.33 Hitpoints XP per point of damage in OSRS. A hit of 30 damage gives 40 Hitpoints XP on top of the XP for the attack style. Dwarf multicannon damage and splashed spells give 0 Hitpoints XP.

What does Attack do in OSRS?

Attack in OSRS raises melee accuracy and unlocks melee weapons. Rune weapons need 40 Attack, dragon weapons need 60 Attack, the abyssal whip needs 70 Attack and godswords need 75 Attack. Attack does not raise your max hit; Strength raises melee max hit.

How does accuracy work in OSRS?

Accuracy in OSRS works by comparing a random attack roll with a random defence roll; the attack hits when the attack roll is higher. Attack roll = effective level × (equipment attack bonus + 64). Monster defence roll = (Defence level + 9) × (defence bonus + 64). Higher Attack, better gear and offensive prayers increase the attack roll.

How many Combat Achievements are in OSRS?

How do you train combat in OSRS?

To train combat in OSRS, finish combat-XP quests first, then fight monsters near your level in 1 attack style at a time. Waterfall Quest gives 13,750 Attack XP and 13,750 Strength XP, which takes a new account from level 1 to level 30 in both skills. Slayer tasks give combat XP and Slayer XP from the same kills.

How do you AFK combat in OSRS, and for how long?

To AFK combat in OSRS, fight high-Hitpoints, low-damage monsters with Auto Retaliate turned on; you can stay idle for 20 minutes in combat and 5 minutes out of combat. After 20 idle minutes in combat your character stops retaliating, and after 5 idle minutes out of combat the game logs you out.
